What Airbnb’s ads say
Airbnb's live Meta ads in the United States sell stays, experiences and the app itself. The main promise is a home for every kind of trip, from a beach house with a pool and a chef to a lake house for a couple, a pet-friendly retreat by the beach and a house with all the amenities for a weekend getaway. The app ads push the all-new Trips tab and an at-a-glance itinerary, while the experiences ads send people to airbnb.com/experiences with the line “Now you can Airbnb more than an Airbnb”. One image ad pairs a dream stay with insurance for peace of mind.
The copy opens with scenes rather than features. It names the group chat, the ex, the favourite child and the family that books better, and it dwells on hot tubs, snorkels, mocktails and a foot massage. The line “The best revenge is a great trip and accidently posting all of it” runs on a video that lands on airbnb.com, and “Turns out all the group chat needed was a home, a food tour, and one person willing to stop talking about it” appears on another video for the same page. The ads set no deadline and quote no customer. Instead they describe the trip itself: a majestic home, bargain hunting with a fashion queen, a chef whipping up a royal feast, and a house where everyone has their own shower.
Nearly every pulled ad is a video, at 92% of the sample, and 44 of them link to airbnb.com. The buttons are Learn more, Book now and Install now, and the app ad sends people to the Google Play store.
